My daughter is new in Chitown; loves to cook. Says every grocery option she has explored is poor quality, poor selection. To quote: "Even the Whole Foods Market is a big step down from a standard Safeway in Denver." Where can she find good quality and good selection without a car from Ravenswood neighborhood?

I'm not sure if she's tried Treasure Island chain of grocery stores, but they seem to have the higher end food products. She could also try out the Fox and Obel store, but it's downtown and from the Ravenswood neighborhood, she's going to have quite a public transportation hike. I hope this helps.

Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Ravenswood is a marvelous place to live if you are open to shopping at ethnic small businesses and using mass transit. Do your grocery shopping like Europeans do; buy a small amount of fresh produce frequently instead of trying to purchase a truckload. It's not even all that "iffy" when you learn how to conduct yourself to not be marked as an easy target.
Take the Brown Line or the Lincoln Bus to Western & Lawrence, and check out the German ethnic choices. The Brown Line Kedzie stop has Arabic and Korean shops. Take the Lawrence bus east and walk up to Argyle for Vietnamese choices. Shop at the Mexican vegetable and fruit markets everywhere. Be patient if you have to wait for the "foreign" customers to be serviced first. Act as if you are a guest instead of an Ugly American, and you will be receive fair treatment, eventually.

Agree with Carlos' answer in part... without a car she is limited. I drive a few miles to go to a Dominicks right over by that Fox and Obel Carlos mentioned... both good and that Dominick's has stuff most do not. Of course, no offense but not sure what she was expecting moving in to Ravenswood... suspect area to boot and not all that much around.

What the heck is she doing in Ravenswood. Yikes.
Can't walk to anyplace around there!!

By the way.....we true Chicagoans hate it when people call our City 'chitown'. That's ghetto!!
