Free money and laziness. Just like people who deliberately become 100 pounds or more overweight just to collect state benefits.

I think it's the whole "victim mentality." We're not really taught to take responsbility for our choices anymore, so if something bad happens to us, it MUST be someone else's fault, right? That's why smokers' families sue the tobacco companies and lawyers try the "Twinkie defense" and fat people sue McDonald's.

Personal responsibility isn't taught anymore, so instead we sue profitable companies -- 'cause after all, why should be have to work for a living or make good choices that are inconvenient? :-)

Because Fatso thinks that it's the company's fault that he/she can't put down the Big Mac. Really, our society breeds the standard that if you're not happy with something then sue. So Fatty sues.
*I'm not discriminatory against obese people, but let's be real- you control how much you eat.

They sue food companies because they can't take responsibility for their own actions. Put the fork down and slowly back away from the table. No one forces them to eat poorly.

This is a common reaction to not accepting responsibility for one's owns actions. We as a society find that placing blame on someone else is easier than standing up, taking ownership and accepting that the result is directly due to their actions. Yes the food is great, it's got to be in order to sell, but each one of us is responsible for maintaining balance in our lives. Many times, when we make bad decisions, we find it easier to find a scapegoat than just say, it was a result of my own bad decisions.
And yes, some are just out there trying to make a fast buck.

The people who do this have to have a ligament reason, so their reasoning would have to go something like, "this is the only place I've eaten in a year, and now I'm fat.

Yea, they are hoping to get a lot of free money that they didn't earn.

The logic behind one fat guy's legal complaint against McDonald's was that he thought that their advertising mislead him over the years into thinking that their food was not harmful. As if he couldn't tell what was making him fat.

It has nothing to do with whatever people do. People do it because they can. We and the justice system allow them to. If the court system is not childish then we wont see this kind of cases make it through. The judges and society support this kind of stupid cases to show that we, american, are stupid.
