I've been a vegetarian for 15 years and take no vitamin supplements (I've tried them in the past and didn't feel any different). I love my job and everythings ok in my life so i'm not depressed, but just feel so tired constantly. Felt like this for years. My grandfather had narcolepsy (the falling asleep at any time illness) and i'm scared incase i'm going to develop this too. Sometimes i feel that i could just lie down on the pavement and sleep. I get 8 hours of good sleep a night but still wake up feeling exhuasted. Bit scared to go to docs incase it's something serious though. I had glandular fever about ten years ago, and felt fine before that. Anyone else feeling like this?

You could be anaemic and may need iron supplements. You should see your doctor about this.

Vegetarianism is a difficult path, and you have not given me enough information to give you a fully valid answer, but I'll do my best.

You need to take in proteins. Vege fare can provide most of these, but there are a couple of amino acids that are vital to the body that cannot be assimilated by the body in the absence of meat.

Carbohydrates are not a problem with veggies - potatoes are full of them. These are your energy foods.

Fats do not occur much in the veggie domain, but they can be there if you eat butter, and use decent oils for cooking, such as olive or sunflower.

I feel you need to see a doctor of medicine, and ask for a referral to a nutritionist. I have no objection to vegetarians, and myself and my wife eat exclusively veggie for 4 mains out of 7, but I am convinced that the human needs some animal products, purely because there are those 2 amino acids that we cannot make ourselves without eating some meat. You are not getting a balanced diet. We do not have canine teeth, designed to rend meat, for no purpose.

Whether you agree with me or not, see a doctor.

hello there...you do not say how old you are?...you should have carried on taking vitamins because although you say you have tried them and didn't feel any different, your body probably could be mal-nourished..which might explain why you feel tired all the time....you should eat sensibly..by which I mean...protien...veg and fruit...at least these days there are alot of alternatives to meat, compared to say 10years ago...there is another thing I would like to mention...you also say you had glandular fever about 10years ago...could this have affected you in some way...you really ought to see a doctor and get checked out...they will probably do a blood test to try and ascertain what is happening.....
hope that helps...and take care.

I am constantly feeling tired I do usually pick up when the summer is heading our way and we have lighter mornings. If you are worried though I would see a doctor because if there is anything wrong the earlier you see the doctor the better
