You won't need an internal wireless card if you purchase a wireless USB adapter. In fact, I recommend NOT getting an internal wireless card, because when it is installed, it's located on the back of the computer in one of the available PCI slots. It'll stick out the back of the computer, but where is that? Usually down on the floor, under a desk, in the corner, or next to your subwoofer--none of the greatest places for clear wireless reception. Go with a Linksys Wireless-G USB adapter--you'll be happy you did. Plug it into an available USB port, and its 3-foot USB cable will let you position the adapter on your desktop, bookshelf, or anywhere else where there's good open space (within 3 feet of the computer, of course).

You only need the wireless card in the computer(s) that you want to use wirelessly.

The USB wireless adapter is the same thing as a wireless card, except it connects into a USB port rather than internally like the card would.

If you're in an area where the USB adapter wouldn't be taken by someone (like if in a dorm or something) then that one is just as good as the card.

802.11n is the best your going to get in affordable technology, maybe n+ but that really isnt a range booster. you can buy an external wireless adapter, but you wont get a better signal as it will be the same strength as the one you have.
