....let's face it,.....most women can remember everything...right down to the color of the guys shoe laces. So I don't think you'll be forgetting too much stuff over time anyways. Shutting off your mind????...honey...you've got mental energy stirring in you seriously. It's simply anxiety. Try to put that worrisome energy to good use though. Think positive efforts here. The negative ones are the things you don't want reasonably. Get busy now hun.....we appreciate deep thinkers. Channel it into good use.

You can't totally shut off your mind, but you can learn to calm your mind. Doing meditation or yoga or tai chi are really good ways to calm your mind through focusing on the present moment. You can also train yourself to stop thinking about certain things that are troublesome to you. Sometimes if I'm walking down the street and I start to have a thought and I really don't want to go down that thinking path, I'll actually tell myself, out loud, to shut up. People passing by may think I'm crazy, but it works. So, rather than thinking about trying to shut off your mind, which as others have pointed out, is just not going to happen, maybe think about calming it and refocusing it.

It is the price one pays for being sentient.

IMO, all in all, it isn't a bad deal. I think I prefer it to living on instincts and reflexes.
