What makes them so great? They are a lot more expensive than 8-cylinder sports cars with V8s that can still go from 0 to 60 quickly such as the Camaro Z28, Firebird Trans AM, and the Mustang GT.

I mean come on! You can get all that souped-up 8-cylinder power you want with something like one of those cars I just mentioned for UNDER $25,000, yet there are people who spend a much as a quarter million on some Ferrari or Lamborghini, or even over $1,000,000 on a freakin' ENZO Ferrari. What?, do they have steering wheels made out of diamonds? Are the pistons made out of 24 karat gold? Do they come with some small supercomputer with other features like that black Trans Am "Kit" from "Knight Rider"?

They are no better in power and performance than a souped-up 6 or 8 cylinder and aren't as fast as stock cars and Formula 1 cars.

So what makes these Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other expensive sports cars such a big deal, and so expensive????

It's just like wine. Extremely expensive wines are not better wines, they are just rarer. People want to stand out in a crowd. If your car has a distribution of 1 million that's hard to do. If your car has a distribution of 200, then thats cool (to them, not my opinion).

Also remember that people that buy these cars are typically rich enough that an extra $100,000 is a drop in the bucket. So they buy $200,000.00 cars and $2,000.00 shoes and drink $200.00 wines, but who cares, really?

People buy expensive cars because of status symbols and that nobody else can afford them , so they can say, "look at what I'm driving!", with that stuck up (LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME I'M SOO RICH AND BETTER THAT YOU!!!) proud and arrogant look on their face.

AND

These cars cost a lot because,
1. Status symbols, your paying for luxury, speed
2. They cost a lot because they aren't mass produced. How many 2006 Enzo Ferraris are there? Divide that number by 365 days a year and you will find out how many are made in even a day, not very many probably. They would be cheaper if they were made in a LARGE factory by lots of people and machines.
3. Hardly anybody makes them so parts are rare, so the parts cost a lot.

-OH and for reason #1, 2 and 3 the insurance is high.

I LOOOOVE that first answer.

Let me put it THIS way. People who can spend THAT much money on a car are wealthy, and wealthy people often want to show off their wealth. It has little to do with the power or performance of the car.

Of course, there are guys and gals like us, who would love to own a Lambo, but even if we could buy one, the insurance would kill us, so we just dream a lot.

For MY money, I would love to have a stock looking RWD Impala with about 600 H/P and go out and make some of those wealthy guys sad.

For now, I'm stuck with my 4 banger Camry..........NOT that there is anything wrong with that........

If you'd ever drove one you wouldn't ask this question.
The way that the higher end sports cars handle and perform is not even comparable. I have a Supercharged Mustang Cobra and it is a FINE car, but not even in the same class as the high end vehicles.

Nothing at all. It just shows that you have the money for it.

Same thing with owning a Rolls Royce. It's not only an expensive car but maintenance on it is expensive.

It just shows that you have deep pockets for this sort of stuff.

Same reason rich Christians in New York drive expensive sports cars.

They are luxurious and high performance cars which make them great for going on a ride, but those cars are only if you are rich and have nothing else to spend money on.

Your just buying a label..Sorta like Gucci Sunglasses..Its not better...its just product name.

I don't get it either.. I have a hard time buying any brand new car. I think its insane to spend $30,000 on a car when there are so many capable used cars out there for half or less than
