Is it normal to have a yeast infection (or some kind of infection) while pregnant? I am 7 weeks along and have some sort of infection right now. My doctor's appt is in 3 weeks, but I'm not sure if I should bump it up or not.

If it is a yeast infection, can I use over the counter meds to cure it? Or is that harmful to the baby?

First and foremost, before you use anything over the counter, CALL YOUR DOCTOR!

I believed I had a yeast infection when I was about 7-8 weeks along with this pregnancy. I called my OB and was told that I could use an over the counter cream, but ONLY on the outside of the area.

Call your doctor and tell them exactly what's going on. They may simply tell you to pick something up from the store, or they may tell you come in now to be checked out.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:

Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.

If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

Make sure it is a yeast infection first before using any medications. If you want to do something to ease the discomfort and cure it without using meds (if it is in fact a yeast infection), you can use plain yogurt (not vanilla or flavored, PLAIN) and just wear a pad. Also take probiotics, which are available at your health food store in the refridgerated section. Neither of these will harm your baby and they will clear the yeasties up. Also, avoid sugar. Yeast LOVES sugar.

It is *very* normal to get a yeast infection while pregnant. The culprits are your hormones, which are out of whack currently. I was similarly cursed when pregnant with my second child, even though I'd never been afflicted before. Do not use any otc medications before you see your dr. They need to rule out whether it is a yeast infection, or bacterial vaginosis, which is also common during pregnancy. Your dr. will give you the appropriate meds, which will not harm the babe. In fact, you will do more damage to the fetus if you leave yourself untreated.

Yes Yes Yes bump up your appointmet. Just to make sure its actually yeast. I kept a yeast infection during the last 6 months of my pregnancy. Every time I cleared it up it came back after a few weeks. I also had them a lot before I got pregnant... but please let the doctor be the doctor and you be the patient.

You can use over the counter creams, they recommend the 7 day kind during pregnancy. You should call your doctor and get in sooner in case it is something other than a yeast infection. If you have bacterial vaginosis or an STD, they will need to use something else for this.
