Hi i am currently suffereing from an aching joint pain in my left wrist when I lift my hand up, ive tried wearing a wrist support and it seems to help a little, i am not sure whether it is a repetitive strain or something else, im not to keen to go to the doctors as i am joining the army in around 6 months and do not want it on my record, i am unable to do pressups on it, as it hurts when i put weight on it. Any assistance would be helpful, i am only 18 and am quite worried it will affect my career!! Thankyou!

is it at the base of the thumb--where the thumb meets your wrist?
I forgot what the technical term is, but its tendonitis...I had to wrap my wrist with my thumb "closed" into my palm for 2 weeks.
Ace bandage, wrap your wrist securely and then your thumb (so it looks like you dont have a thumb)--you know what I mean. Instant relief...keep it wrapped as much as possible.

If you want to join the Army It will certainly affect your career choice if you don't go and get it attended to! you should see your Doctor. It can be treated but if left you will not pass the physical. It won't make any difference if it's on your medcal records. Anyone can get a repetitive strain injury or carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis etc. Your symptoms could be any of those! Once it is diagnosed you will have some idea of how long the treatment will take.
You don't say what kind of wrist support you have tried! If its just a band around the wrist it may not be enough. Try using one that supports your thumb and wrist or ask your Doctor if a Splint would help.

It might not e an thing... how often are you on the computer (typing and using the mouse) because u can get really sore wrists by excessive use of the computer
if you have hurt it sometime in ur life it might be a reacuring sprain
i recently hurt my ankle and its weak and i keep re hurting it which sometimes is more painiful then the previous time
i would say rest it put a support on it (which u said you were doing any way) and dont do any thing strnuous with it (like pressups) if it is still worrying you after you have rested it for a while i would suggest a check up with ur doctor
good luck hope it gets better

Wearing a wrist support will only weaken the wrist stop immediately, find out what is causing it and give it a rest for as bit, if it persists try rubbing the arm from the elbow in the inside down to your wrist where your hand is, try and feel the tendons and muscles, you will feel exactly where the pain is and work on it gently for a couple of days, you should notice a marked difference. If not go to a professional massage therapist and they will help. Good luck and find out what is causing it and stop until it eases off.

If you're physically unable to do pushups because of your wrist, you're not going to get far in the Army. Basic training is 75% physical training requiring your wrists. Besides that, they give you a COMPLETE physical. They'll find it sooner or later.
The only thing I can think of it some type of arthritis or tendonitis, but you're going to have to see the doctor either way. If a MD is able to diagnose treat it, it may better your chances of getting through the Army.

treat it with ice you can use an ice pack or a frozen bag of peas or corn and an anti inflamtory such as ibuprophen but you best get it checked out before you join military as boot camp is tough. if you do a lot of typing get a gel wrist and mouse rest you can put them in the freezer to keep them cold while you are working. you should see a doctor hon for correct diagnosis. Good luck with your career in military.. God bless and put angels on your pillows.

well, you should see a doctor anyway. There is a slight possibility that you may have a stress fracture, and you will not be able to do the exercises they require in the Army if you don't see to it now. Most likely it is a tendonitis that will require ice and anti-inflammatory meds, but you should get it checked.

I had exactly the same with my wrist, for weeks. Then, it `righted itself` I think it may have been a stretched ligament. I do hope that your pain will do the same, but it does make sense to see your doctor. Good Luck.

If you don't adress this problem you won't pass the physical to enter the Army. Going to to the doctor to cure an ailment would not prevent you from passing the physical. May be a small fracture.

if you don't get this checked out by the doctor, and treated, you won't pass your entry medicalfor the army. which will probably affect your career even more than getting it treated now. delaying treatment just makes the problem worse and therapy takes longer
