when you see someone is the first thing you consider- their appearance? What do you think of the medias view on body image?,are we as a society too obsessed with the way we look?
are you concerned with your appearance and do people with too much confidence annoy you or inspire you?
I myself suffer from low self esteem and feel the media emphasise too much on looks and not enough on someones personality and good nature.Do you agree or disagree?

thanks

I think people are in general too concerned about appearances. I am neat and clean but not a poser or obsessed with my looks. I guess that is why I am single and all the people I know who are very vain and shallow are in relationships. Lol.

My body image is important to me; I have battled my weight all my life - I'm 53 now, and almost three stone overweight; I have a responsible job, a loving partner,5 gorgeous adult children, and still have low self esteem.
I have learned through the years that other people's body image is not important to me. I have a good friend whose warm loving personality lit up many dark days for me; I love it when he visits. I have known him for 20 years.
I only realised about ten years ago that he had bad acne most of his life - I SIMPLY DIDN'T SEE IT.
I think you are right, though... as a society, we judge too much by how someone looks; I went to a very serious meeting recently where I wanted people to listen to me. I glammed up, did the whole power dressing thing... and you know what, it worked!
Would they have paid as much attention if I had just dressed as usual, with no make-up on?
Very confident people terrify me, but I have got better at dealing with them. I think it's Carl Jung that says we are most likely to desire the thing we think we dislike!
That must mean then, that we secretly want to be that confident too. I think I have a nice nature; I think I have a quieter way of doing things; and I think people notice eventually.
I wish I was thin; I wish I was twenty years younger; but I don't know whether it would make me a better person.

Everywhere you look are beautiful thin women, there on the tv, in mags, everywhere, and to be honest its worrying. When my daughter grows up i worry that she will become one of these fashion robots (By that i mean will go to any lenght to lose weight to become fashionable) that want to look the same as everyone alse, reguardless of the health problems. There is no free thinking anymore, If your not a certain size your made to feel as though you dont have a place in sociaty.
I found out the other day, if you want to become a model and are a size 12, you would HAVE to be a plus size model!!!
I couldnt belive it. I think their should be photos in mags of real people, natural people. I know their are some very lucky ladies out there that are naturaly slim, but we need to take a step back and look at whet these images are telling our kids. Are we telling them its ok to be yourself, and to have fun, and enjoy life? or are we telling them to watch what you eat because if you a size 12+ they wont be beautiful?

a person's appearance is the first thing that we notice when we see them, and it is difficult to obtain a sense of someone's personality from looks alone. whenever i see another girl i compare myself with her and if she is prettier or has a better figure i feel intimidated. i think the media has a large part to play in putting too great an emphasis on looks - but in general, a picture of someone with a great personality won't sell a magazine. i feel that looks are important and can tell you a lot about a person, and it is often someone's look that draws us to talk to them in the first place. more importantly though, it is their personality that determines whether we keep talking to them.

Honestly I use to not care, but now that I'm pregnant I find that my body image is very important to me. I will freak out if I am never able to fit into a size 3 again. Now that I'm at the point where you can't tell that I'm pregnant, I just look fat like I'm gaining weight and I think that everyone thinks I'm fat. I think I'm fat. I could go on forever. I am obsessive with my body image. Basically I love to get complimented, and it scares me that I may not ever get complimented about my figure again. But at least I got some really great boobs thanks to the pregnancy.

I don't give a **** about appearance and body image. I am concerned with real people and I'm not concerned with their level of cofidence. Why do you suffer from low self esteem - are you unhappy with your size/shape/personality - if so do something about it. Don't wallow in self -pity - get on and change things!!!Good luck!!!

i dont really care about body/height/weight. its about whats inside, thats the part that counts. but i cant go out without my mohawk. my mohawk is the only thing i give special attention to when it comes to looks/image. otherwise im not bothered at all.
