are you talking about windows xp? because you can't do that. a mac has a mac operating system and a PC has its own operating system. like windows.

I assume you're using an Intel-based Mac (MacBook, iMac Core Duo, Mac Pro, etc). There are two ways to do it: Boot Camp lets you boot natively into Windows XP, but you need to reboot to switch between OS X and Windows; Parallels Desktop runs Windows in a virtual machine at the same time as Mac OS X and you can easily copy data between both systems.
If you need the absolute best performance, specialized USB devices, or accellerated graphics for games, use Boot Camp. For everything else, Parallels is great. The speed difference is almost unnoticeable (except for games). The latest version has a 'coherence' mode which lets windows applications share the screen with Mac applications instead of running in a separate window.
