The owners in San Diego did not like Marty, the owners in Tampa Bay like John Gruden, plus Gruden has had success in the play-offs, and Gruden had nowhere near the talent level of Marty

Well the reasoning is Marty didn't get along with management. That and Marty's awful playoff track record. But yeah, it makes no sense otherwise. The Chargers were idiots to let him go AFTER all the coaching vacancies had been filled. Jon Gruden got lucky and won with Tony Dungy's team intact. He hasn't done ANYTHING with that team since then. It makes you wonder right?

Because after over 20 seasons as a head coach he has NEVER took a team to the super bowl and every team that hires them is getting tired of it. But Jon Gruden is a younger coach so he hasn't had much of a chance and the Buccaneers have never really had many successful seasons, if Jon keeps that up he will get fired but he needs more of a chance, and after all he did get one ring in 02...

1. gruden has a super bowl, the only one in bucs history...marty does not have a super bowl at all
2. schottenheimer had issues with his GM, gruden is not exactly in good standing with management but is not hated like marty was
and to the guy who said gruden is a good gameplanner...how can you possibly tell? he abandoned his game plans in the first quarter of every game...if the bucs fell behind by so much as a touchdown, he would forget about running the ball and start passing every play

Jon Gruden won that superbowl with Tony Dungys team. And what has he done after he took over Dungys team and got a ring? Nothing. If the Bucs were smart they would give Gruden his walking papers and bring in Shottenhiemer.

Teams (and owners) that think they should be winning superbowls are not satisfied with merely winning games and division titles. After a tough playoff loss, especially in the first game of the playoffs, a lot of teams start trying to shake things up. I think Philadelphia is one of the few who didn't fall into that trap. Indianapolis did cut the most consistient kicker in the league, but it looks like they did the right thing.
I don't like when teams destroy a good thing because of one game, but they'll still do it. How many people were saying Peyton couldn't win when it counted? All because he had bad games at the worst times. Now Manning won a superbowl and he gets talked about alongside Montana, Elway, and Young. Has anything really changed? No, he just had a good day when it counted for a change--he's been that good for years.
