I think it's just down to which letters are used the most. You'll find that the vowels are placed in such a fashion that they are on the top and middle rows and closest to where your fingers lie. Thus making it easier to find the keys without moving the whole hand.

Good questions though. Never thought to question it.

Hi!
This is true..and quite funny. It was..orignally. The problem was people were typing so fast...they would jam the typewriters.

The person who made the typewriters changed the keyboard so it would be harder for them to go so fast.

QWERTY was born....and has been with us ever since.

>>>I should point out just because the keys are like this..does not mean you have to use it as is. You can change it if you like..to the dvorak style. I had a typing program that did this for me..it seemed easier to learn that way.

You go into control panel (make sure you are in classic view)..select regional language and options..select languages tab..the click on text services's details button. Even more interesting..there is a left hand dvorak and a right hand dvorak version in there! Enjoy!

because long ago when they had actual typewriters with little keys that popped up, letters that were too close to each other, like RST, would get jammed when typing quickly. So they had to mix the unused letters, like Q and X, into the more used letters to prevent the jamming. There is much debate now about whether we still need to use the qwerty keyboard. Apparently its bad for your hands and stuff. I dunno, I can't imagine everyone having to learn to type all over again.

its layed in the so called 'qwerty' format becuse it is set to how commonly letters are used. for instance letters on thie side are generally less used z,x,i,o,p. in the middle, and more commonly used a,s,d,f,j,k,l. I spose that we just could have gotten used to abc order but someone thought this was a better idea...

the design of the keyboard KEYS.. was made back in the Mechanical typewriter days... and they put the keys in that Order... in order to fix some Mechanical issues of the day.... making it more rely-able.... putting commonly used letters and or numbers together caused Jamming... since everything was mechanical.... now days..... its not a necessary....mainly i guess so that they can teach the keyboard to kids....

long ago ppl used type writers and they took a looooong time to type with. So they have the most common letters and vowels in the middle. thats why they have letters like a,d,s,h in the middle, ppl use them alot, y wud they put letters like zx and v in the middle, ppl don't use em that much.
