Does Golding offer any solutions for society's ills? No - he merely points them out in a metaphorical and microcosmic sense. If he's offerring any solution, it would be that we need more control and education as to what is "right" by society's standards. This is exemplified by the Naval Officer showing up at the end (showing a gov't control over "savage" individuals).

Is he attacking Western Society? Yes, and no... yes, because he says that we all want to live, not in anarchy, but in a society where we can make up our own rules (Jack didn't want anarchy, he just wanted all the boys to follow HIS rules instead of Ralph's - or British society). Plus, the fact that the whole story was brought about by their plane being shot down in war (Atomic War, or WWII presumably) shows how we, as a society, are barbaric and warlike. He also defends society by saying that without our rules, we would all be hunters who rule by fear, steal what we need, and kill each other.

If Golding had a solution in the book, I sure couldn't find it. Indeed he's attacking society and if humanity were released, the whole world would be the same.

i dont think he offeres any solution at all. I also dont think he is attacking the westeren society at all. i think he was strictly trying to get his point accross that the human heart is nothing but evil, and without guidance and rules, teh world would be nothing but a breeding ground for evil souls.
