the 80's where the best, so much stuff going around its very difficult to pinpoint one single song. For a start anything by the Smiths was great. I personally used to love Toyah Willcox, but that was an acquired taste !!! I actually preferred Tears For Fear's - "Pale Shelter" or "Head Over Heels" Its just that I was 15 years old when the 80's started therefore It was a very exciting time for me, and music is my passion

If you liked "Shout" from Tears for Fears, you should listen to their song "Mad World" There is a video of it on youtube.com and it has some funky 80's dance moves in it. I love songs from the 80's..especially the new wave stuff. It was just so laid back and fresh. My favorites are
Tears for Fears: Mad World.. fitting description of the world.
Depeche Mode: Stripped.. I feel the lyrics are so true.
The Cure: A Night Like This.. relaxing/beautiful lyrics.

I loved anything Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran, New Edition, High-Five, Paula Abdul, Mister Mister, Pat Benetar, the Pretenders, Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Keith Sweat, David Bowie, Tears For Fears, Extreme, Falco, Madness, Culture Club, Michael Jackson, Nena, Martika, Til Tuesday, Berlin, and too many more to name.
But my most favorite of all would have to have been A-ha's "Take On Me. I absolutely loved that song and still do.

God, there were so many of them.
The 80's were the last decade where artists had to have actual talent in order to get a hit song, or make a career of music. Starting the early 90's, everything started to get overproduced, with every note tweaked in post processing, "corrected", and then run by a sample audience for approval or critique.
I can't pick just one favorite, but "Come on Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners would be close.

Anything by Adam and the Ants cos I loved them when I was six!
I also loved Blondie and Madness and the Jam and the Stranglers and the Clash and the Cure. Hated all that late eighties shite like Tiffany and Kylie and all the Stock, Aitken and Waterman bollox, they were truly bloody awful, offensive to the ears! I'd rather jack than Fleetwood Mac? What!

Difficult question. That was the era of "alternative rock" just prior to it becoming mainstream. There was such a massive movement of good music happening behind the mainstream that it boggles my mind: The Smiths, The Cure, JAMC, etc.
For favourite song of the decade though, I'd have to go for:
Eyes of a Stranger by the Payola$.
Amazing song. A perfect meld of post-punk reggae-influenced Canadian alternative pop rock.
