Hollywood is the mainstream American film industry. Bollywood is the mainstream Indian film industry. Bollywood has ripped of just about every film plot ever written, but also produce a lot of original content. Bollywood films tradition included a prerequisite number of song and dance number. This is starting to change. Indian films are also very long compared with western movies. Hollywood itself is struggling as a film production center, because of the high costs. Most films are now made outside of the Hollywood studios. There has also be a trend for the big budget investors to move into producing quality television rather than film. Hollywood's early success was because of its climate. You needed a lot of sun to shoot film. Advances in technology have now nullified this advantage completely. ============================== George is utterly ignorant of the Indian film industry. There is some kissing in Indian films and more besides. Indian films are watched by far larger audiences than Hollywood productions, and they are watched worldwide. To value an industry based just on current revenue is a huge mistake. The Indian film industry is developing as fast as the rest of its economy and will most likely dwarf Hollywood in every respect, by the end of the century. Bollywood is making an increasing number of co-productions with film producers in other countries. These film act as a gateway for new international audience to appreciate what Bollywood has to offer.

Bollywood is the informal name given to the popular Mumbai-based Hindi language film industry in India. The term is sometimes used incorrectly to refer to the whole of Indian cinema.

The name is a blend of Bombay, the former name for Mumbai, and Hollywood, the center of the American film industry. Though some purists deplore the name, arguing that it makes the industry look like a poor cousin to Hollywood, it seems likely to persist and now has its own entry in the Oxford English Dictionary. Such names have also been used for other industries, including Kollywood, Tollywood, Lollywood, Dallywood, and Nollywood.

Hollywood came first. It was a city in California before it became a famous place. "Bollywood" is just a take on Hollywood because it is the city in India where all its "stars" are - like Hollywood in the U.S.
