wonderful rich depth of colour depending on the brand of paint you use, its very versatile, and the fact it takes awhile to dry, which can be advantageous if you like to change things without many many layers over each other, although this you can do too if you want.

Actually, each media has advantages and disadvantages....the chief advantage of oil (I've used all media's) is the way you can use the paint itself as a part of the picture. Utilizing the thickness and versatileness of the paint itself.

One of the main advantages is glazing. The application of many layers to achieve a shading effect that you can only copy with an air brush and even then it's not the same look.

You can make distinct lines, unlike, say, watercolor, where you can only make blurry blobs of color.
Plus, the color is super-saturated, so you can get really intense hues or mute them if you like.
Plus, Bob Ross used oils, and he was the man, so use what he used.
