We have a low-lying wet backyard area that I would like to plant something that can use (and soak up) some of that wetness. I think we are zone 4 or 5.

Weeping willows suck up water like crazy.

Sunset has a book called Gardening in the Midwest. You might look at that. Weeping willows like plenty of water and can survive hard winters.
