Can you explain the anime show Bleach for me?

It's based on the premise that spirits called Hollows exist after death and roam the real world. Field agents from the afterlife, called Shinigami, come to the real world to ease the transition of these Hollows into the afterlife.

The Shinigami use sentient swords, called zanpaktou, to fight the Hollows and purify them if necessary, before sending them on their way.

Soul Society is the name of the afterlife. However, outside the noble areas, there exists poverty, lawlessness, and starvation.

The Shinigami are lead under a chain of command. There are 13 captains, who each lead a division of Shinigami. They are supported by a group of 13 Lieutenants.

The show is about Ichigo Kurosaki a young man who can see, hear, and touch spirits. He finds himself drafted into being a 'Soul Reaper' a collector of the restless dead.

There are two kinds of restless dead, just plain old ghosts, and hollows. A hallow is a ghost that has been dead to long, its lost all since of campasion and has become a monster that preys on the living. Soul Repears fight these creatures, and in defeating them, purify them and send them to the after-life.

Unforutantly for Ichigo, already strange in both the normal world and when compared to other Soul Reapers, somebody notices. He is thrown into Soul Reaper politics, which almost kills him. A friend is taken and he has only a few days to save them. In the process of saving her he becomes even odder as a Soul Reaper and...

he then meets a soul reaper named rukia and she helps him save his sisters from a hollow by lending him her power when she is wounded

- the soul society is where the soul reapers live along with the sent souls
- the soul reapers are considered a kind of nobilty compared to the souls sent there

-in the soul society there are 13 different groups of soul reapers and each is responsible for different things
-the 13 groups are lead by a captain and then a lieutentant
