They are not user replaceable. Mine is now 18 months old, and I still am getting about the same amount of battery life as when it was knew, so the life of the battery can be longer than 18 months. Apple will replace your iPod for somewhere around $50 if the battery life is less than 1/2 that of a new one (and there is nothing else wrong with it). They will take your iPod and give you a new one. I assume they then recondition yours, but I am not sure.

It's true they cannot be replaced by you (at least not practically). Apple makes you take it to an Apple store or send it to them. It costs quite a bit and some they won't even bother with (1g and 2g Nano). My friend works at an Apple store, and they are only supposed to last 18 months before the charge starts to fade...

it really depends on your ipod,,the more gigabytes it has the less songs it holds,,the longer the battery has to last.how often do you use it?what kind is it?it varrys per ipod.:)

they are irriplacable but my friend had an ipod for a year and it still works good luck

True. You can't replace them yourself. You have to send it in. They get you coming and going!
