You know how you are in class and understand a question and then get home and don't have a clue. That is what I am experiencing right now... I am in a college counseling course where we are studying different theories and these are the questions that i have to write a paper on.... can you simplify these for me? Thanks!!!

What relationship do you see between your own personality/style/voice and the basic tenets of the theories we've covered so far? Elaborate on those theories with which you resonate. Why do you think this is so? How do you see yourself using these theories in practice? How do you see yourself using these theories for self-understanding?

Thanks soooo much!!!!!

What relationship do you see between your own personality/style/voice and the basic tenets of the theories we've covered so far?

Counsellors cannot step out of their own personality in order to do counselling. So the question is asking you how you see your own style or "voice" relating to the various counselling theories you've covered. So, I don't know what theories you've covered, but here's an example: Rogerian theory emphasizes empathy, reflecting back the clients feelings and being non-directive. If you are naturally a passive, reflective person, then your personality matches that theory. Some of the theories are going to seem more in synch with your natural style. So the question is asking you to consider your own personality and the theories and how they match up.

Elaborate on those theories with which you resonate. Why do you think this is so?

You're being asked to expand on the theories which seem to hit home best with your own personality and style and to talk about why those theories hit home (or resonate) with you.

How do you see yourself using these theories in practice?

Discuss how you might actually use the theories you've elaborated on. So if you were actually in a counselling situation with someone, how would you use the theory.

How do you see yourself using these theories for self-understanding?

Now think about the same theory or theories and talk about how they might help you better understand yourself.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
