Take a look at the Maxine series. For a fictional character, she's got some really good short 'n sassys to choose from.

One of my favorites is from Will Rogers during the 1924 Presidential election for Teddy Roosevelt. When someone asked Mr. Rogers about all the hoopla connected with the election he replied: " Suppose you were a politician; and suppose you were an idiot; but I repeat myself ".
