Obviously there's genetics...but what about the way people treat you?

Definately. The way I grew up affected me in so many ways. From the way my parents taught me, the friends I had, the way people treated me based on all these factors(social status, appearance, dress, beliefs, etc). Children are highly affected by their surroundings and the environment in which they grow up in, so I guess in theory...the way people treat you IS the basis of personality.

I think that whatever the YOU inside of you is, whether it's a soul or just some portion of your brain, that is where your personality is. I don't think it's exactly genetic, I think thought process is in part genetic which will effect your personality and the way people treat you will have an effect on your personality. I think the core of your personality is something you are born with. I know that the core of my personality is the same I've had for as long as even my mom can remember before the way people treated me had an effect on me.

Most definitly I think your surrounding enviroment and human interaction pretty much determines your personality. For example if you have a history of people lying to you your obviously not going to trust people easily. How you were raised and people you associate with help develop your personality You of course have your own feelings and ideas but others do have an imapct on it if we like it or not That's just my opinion of course.

Genetics don't determine your presonality. Human interaction does though. The more important the person is to you, the greater his or her impact on your life and your personality will be.

The old nature vs. nurture thing? Sure, that's one contributing variable amongst many.
