There are a number of different places to buy a refurbished laptop online. Dell has a section of their website devoted to refurbished laptops - you simply search for the features you want, and it will display the available laptops. They are all fully warranted by Dell, and are all just as trustworthy as a brand new laptop.

Ebay is also a good source for used/refurbished laptops. I have gotten 2 laptops off of Ebay before, all at less than the OEM price, and all entirely to nearly new. However, a word of caution - if a price seems to low to be true on Ebay, it probably is.

Good luck!

A reputable local computer store would be the best bet in my opinion because you can ususally see how well they work there. Online I'd be careful. Just make sure the store is reputable, and know refurbished items don't usually come with warranties so you'd want to be careful.

Toshiba and Acer new laptops are both fairly cheap at walmart I believe, I think dell are usually affordable too.

If I were you I'd get her a brand new.the price difference is not that much, specially with the new Intel Core duo and Windows Vista,\If you wait for a sale you might get a good brand laptop for as Little as $600,
Shoppe around first and you'll see by yourself there's not much of a difference
