It depends on how much they love Martin Scorcesse. It probably will be The Departed, but I think The Queen, could sneak in.

I have not seen Babel, but if it has Brad Pitt in it, it's a waste of film. I hope the Departed wins simply because Scorsese is my favorite director.

The Departed was no doubt a much, much better picture... then again the acadamy does hate Martin Scorsese... but still The Departed will win b/c it was just so damn good.

most of the time, the Golden Globe winner wins at the Oscars too...so that makes me say Babel
but The Departed was the best movie of the year, it really should win, but the academy has made some bonehead moves before

Honestly, I think it goes to "Little Miss Sunshine."
Martin Scorcese takes Best Director, though.
Look for Peter O'Toole to upset in the Best Actor category. He finally "win[s] the lovely bugger outright." http://www.breakingnews.ie/2007/01/23/story294698.html
Best Supporting Actress often produces upsets, too, and Oscar likes the kiddies, so look for Abigail Breslin as a **potential** upset. Jennifer Hudson has a lot of momentum, though, so there's no guarantee on this one.

I can't see why it would go to the departed? That movie was lame. So what if it had a lot of good actors in it. The story and the directing sucked.
