In a redox reaction, the oxidation states of at least two elements in the reaction will change. One will become more positive and the other will become more negative. In that reaction, Hg is oxidized to Hg2+ and O2 is reduced to 2 O2- ions.

Since energy is being released by that reaction, cooling it will remove the heat that is produced, and the equilibrium will shift farther to the right.

For this one, look for one that is balanced completely. That one will support the conservation of mass.

A synthesis reaction forms a compound from its elements. Only one of these equations does that.
