crosby or ovechkin. ppl who say crosby is better than ovechkin are WRONG. they all play a different kind of game, all score different kind of goals. that's why. anyway, i think crosby and ovechkin are the best 1st overall picks.

You should limit this question from we'll say 1990 - 2005 and wait till '08 or '09 to pick. Cause Crosby & Ovechkin only been in for less than 2 years and everyone is thinking more recent. Lecavalier has been on a tear in the last few years and who can not forgot Mr. Concussion "Lindros" Really never lived up to the hype.
If I would have to, I'd take #87. Last year he made the players around him better, in some cases a lot better. Now, being more disciplined (he has half the penalty minutes now), he's one of the best playmakers if not, the best 1st over pick play maker. He might not be a "sniper", but he can def score. Some people pick #8 cause he can score. That's fine but, Crosby is helping others to score which means more goals in the net along with his. The vision, the skating, the hockey knowledge, def. the complete package.

Easy. Sydney Crosby. Name a single 1st overall draft pick since Mario that scored 100 points in their first season. There is Crosby, and there is Ovechkin. No one else has even come close. And Syd the Kid's only 19!! Jeez. Too bad I'm not a Penguins fan.

Sidney Crosby. Naturally gifted play maker with vision and skill. Crosby is the best player in the NHL since Mario. Ovechkin is a great goal scorer, but nobody would pick him over Crosby if the opportunity existed. GO PENS!!!

I'm going to have to say Rick Nash just to piss you off. But seriously why not Nash. He had the Rocket Richard trophy his second year. So what he's having an off-year but once Nikky Zherdev, Gilbert Brule, and the rest of the team get going they're going to be good. A couple more years and they'll be the team to beat.

An unbiased opinion from Sharks country: Crosby hands down. He won't be 20 until August, he's piling up assists like crazy, and, most important, he's bringing people to the games, thereby promoting the NHL. He won't do what Gretzky did when he moved to L.A. (bringing the NHL out of the cold to a vastly wider audience), but he will add more life to the sport.

i hate the Lightnings, But i have to admit, Vinny Lacavaliers. Look what he's done to the team!!! Gonna be big some day. In another 4 years, lets see if crosby or ovechkin gonna bring the cup to pittsburg or washington and lets see if they can keep their teams constantly in a Playoff spot. Hands Down, Gotta be Lacavalier. GO DEVS GO!!!!!

Crosby. Which of the past 15 picks could be better? I can;t think of one, there are a few busts there (Daigle, Chris Phillips, etc.)
