Every country in the world is interdependent.

We all depend upon other countries. For trade. For materials. For goods. For investments. Etc.

No country is without some level of dependence upon others.

We live on a small planet. When we were just a few tribes here and there we could be pretty much isolated for one another and do well. Today we need to depend on each other for the survival of our specis and our planet. A planet this crowded cannot sustain life long unless we all pitch in and help.

In history every time America has taken an isolationist stand we were very soon dragged into a world war. If we do our bit to help in diplomatic solutions without butting into other countries business' and step in with force only when all else has truly failed we will keep from being isolationist and thus not knowing what others are up to that might cause another war. At the same time we must be alert. We must be willing to help whenever and wherever we can. As the strongest, richest nation ever we have an obligation to do our part without totally doing things for the others.

Yes. Almost nothing is produced in the USA. Half the food is from the far East, manufactured goods from China, technology, culture and language from Europe, religions from the Middle East, TV shows (The Office, American Idol, etc, etc) from Britain.

You can't survive without the rest of the world, and because of so much more than oil and alliances.

Of course, plenty of other countries are partly dependent on you. It's all a wonderful circle.

International trade, certainly. If there were no trade, the world would be a poorer place overall, and each country poorer too.

In the U.S., we're lucky that there is a lot we CAN do for ourselves - but some things would be prohibitively expensive for us to do on our own. One reason we are dependent on foreign oil is that the business and environmental costs of coal production - given current technologies - exceeds the costs of getting oil overseas.

(These points are highly debatable - I'm just making the point that there are economic tradeoffs all around, which is why we have foreign dependencies where you might expect we would have none.)

thats what your socialistic politicians want you to think...actually, right now, we could go to war , ramp up the military and win a conventional war anywhere and with anyone in the world...however, if we let the appeasers and political correctness of "we are all equal" crap start to dominate our country, it wont be long before the rest of the world will use that against us...just as minorities have been using the politically correct mantra of "cultural diversity" to make our country divided....we should all be americans first...the rest of the world should come second in any of our political, economic, and military decisions....we are selling out our country by voting for people who stay in office and when they get out they take a job with a lobbying firm for another country ......we need american values and not cultural diversity...want to come here..??? come here and be american...leave your own culture back home, and if you cant live like an american...go back to where you came from...we wont hate you..but we should have a policy of "america first".....as far as the oil situation goes...we have the brains, innovativeness and technology to go to an all natural power grid if we had to...we are just becoming lazy, dependant and brainwashed by the gov't and the big corporations into believing that we cant have energy without oil...we do need some oil, but the majority of our energy should be coming directly from natural sources, solar, wind, geothermal, tidal..etc...as soon as american people start demanding that we go to the source for our energy, our country will become strong again...and then we can pass that technology on to our valued trading and political partners and let the rest of the world see how we thrive and ask them if they wouldnt like to join us...thats how it should happen...unfortunately, we are being divided by political idealogy that has nothing to do with making america great...its all about the fast buck....

it's called 'dependency theory', funnily enough. US, like all other first world countries, has client states which it uses for cheap primary industry, which has been fostered for hundreds of years to suit the needs of the first world. it is argued in dependency theory that the first world does not want the third world to develop, as it would lose its source of cheap labour and commodities. and while these client relationships remain, it is impossible for the third world to develop anyway, as it is on the back of poorer countries that one can get there, and they're the bottom of the pecking order. it is a convenient form of dependency and none of us in developed countries are complaining about it (except for oil, which is why you see wars).

The same reason you are dependent on your neighbors. You can't be completely independent when you are surrounded by other people. You need to work with the other people to acquire resources, provide mutual protection, prevent chaos, etc.

We are part of the world economy. Other countries depend on us just as much or more.
