'96 to '98 model year Windstars with the 3.8L V6 engines were known for lower intake gasket failures, which would produce the symptoms you describe. True, a stuck closed thermostat would cause the engine to run hotter than normal, so it wouldn't hurt to replace it as well, when you replace the lower intake gaskets, since it would need to be removed anyways. The replacement gaskets are updated, thicker ones which include every gasket needed for the repair. The part number from Ford is F68Z-9433-C. I don't know the price in US dollars, but I guarantee the price is well under $100.00. The only thing additional would be an oil change, and new engine coolant plus whatever labour charged, which should be around 6.0 hours, give or take. Hope this helps.

If your vehicle is running hotter than normal, is either the engine is generating additional heat ( offset timing belt) or the cooling system is not working s it should. (blocked hose, radiator or thermostat, cooling fan)

If your car is sluggish, suspect of the engine, otherwise, check the cooling system first.

i own a repair shop, and it could either be a thermostat ,or a clogged up radiator ,either one will cause it to run a little hotter than usual ,it might pay to have it checked, this is one vehicle you don't want to run hot on you, when they get overheated it causes major problems with the engines in them,so have it checked,so it don't ruin the engine, good luck,i hope this help,s.

It could be Thermostat or the hoses are old and collapsing instead of allowing water to flow. I wouldn't think the system is clogged.
Hoses and thermostat should do it
