at my first appointment with my doctor...I was 10 weeks and had gained 5 lbs. from my original weight. By my 2nd visit...my 14th
week I lost 3 of those lbs. At that time the doctor told me don't worry and that I'll soon gain weight. Three weeks later I'm now at 17 weeks and no matter what I eat I can't gain weight...but my belly is forming as normal. Is this anything to worry about?

If your doctor isnt worried about it then try not to worry yourself. I am early in my pregnancy and at first I gained a pound went in for a visit today and lost 3 pounds. I was told that it is normal for some women not to gain very much weight. Or to loose before they start gaining... If you dont start gaining before to long talk to your doctor and ask if they can do an ultrasound to be sure the baby is growing along with your belly.. Just to be safe.....

no it is perfectly normal!!! This is my second pregnancy, and for the first three months, I only lost weight.. I am now 6 months and have started to gain regularly.. My belly is huge now, butI have only gained a total of 10 lbs.... with my first I gained 60 lbs.. most of which was in the first 4 months.. So every pregnancy is different.. Just eat healthy, and get plenty of exercise and rest and it will be ok!!

I have actually lost weight with my pregnancy, and I am behind on my projected weight gain as well. Every woman is different, just because you're not gaining the same amount of weight as another woman doesn't mean there is going to be anything wrong with your baby. You'll begin to gain more weight during the latter of the second trimester and the third. Sounds like you are eating healthy, so naturally you're not going to gain as much as the women who are gorging on fast foods and using "eating for two" as an excuse.

With my son I only gained a total of 14 pounds!!! He came out at a very healthy 8 pds. 3 oz.!! If your doctor is not worried then your okay..They will check to make sure your baby is growing and as long as that`s happing then your okay!! I know I ate everything in sight!! I hope I`m as lucky this time around because I`m 17 weeks to and have gained about 3 pds! Good luck and congrats!!

Don't worry about it. If your doctor says you are fine then you are. You also start to gain more weight at the end of your pregnancy. With my son i didn't gain any weight until like 25 weeks. I also had horrible morning sickness. If you are small framed you will gain less weight too. Just relax and eat healthy and you will be fine.

I've had three kids, and with each pregnancy, I'd loose a minimum of 40 pounds each. I didn't start gaining any weight until the end of the 7th month. It's got a name: hyperemesis gravidarum. Feeling really sick or green and then not being able to eat because of it. It feels just awful but if your doctor is OK with it, things should be alright!
He/she will be checking that the baby is growing properly and everything is going OK.

If being queasy all the time ails you, try and find a smell that you feel is soothing. With my second baby, it was lemon, and the last one was gingerbread. I'd carry around a lemon/ gingerbread teabag in my purse just in case I started feeling under the weather.
There are also sweets out there aimed at combatting "morning" sickness, called Preggie Pops! They come in different flavors- spearmint, lavender, ginger, and several sour flavors. Ginger worked really well for me, but everyone is different! You can find them online from several different merchants.

I gained 10 pounds between my first and second appointment. Then my next 2 appointments I barely gained any weight. As long as your fundal height is in track with your weeks everything is fine. People tell me all the time that I as soo tiny, but when my doctor measures my uterus I'm right on schedule. Plus if you don't put on weight fast there is less chance of you getting stretch marks. Congrats on your pregnancy, good luck and God bless.

Good for you. It will be easier to lose the pegnancy weight if you don't gain a whole lot.

I lost 10 lbs when I was first pregant with my daughter and was worried but my doctor kept telling me not to worry, don't worry and I ended up gaining just over 20 pounds and ended up 10lbs lighter after having a perfectly healthy 7lb 9oz baby girl.

Really - your doctor will tell you when it's time to worry.

Everyone grows at differant rates. It will happen soon enough. If you were sick at all that could be the problem, also heavier women don't gain as much weight, and if you are skinny it may take longer. Don't worry just keep eating healthy foods, believe me the weight will come.
