It's frustrating isn't it? My son was the same as an infant....20 months and still an aweful napper!! I use to rock him then move to my bed and carefully get in and sleep next to him....getting him into bed without waking him takes skills and practice!!! Sometimes I could keep him a sleep longer by bouncing him gently in bed, sometimes I couldn't. But at least I could get cat naps too! I know you need to do stuff and could really utilize that 30 min otherwise....but, trust me, sleep with him and get some rest. When you're out of those "Hell Months" then you can get back to normal. So, to answer your question, I didn't find any magic solution in any book or fellow mother that helped my son sleep longer....and I did it all. So just adjust for the time being, he will eventually sleep longer. Just be sure to put him down at the very first yawn....that helps too. Good luck!

This is kind of a hard question. First, I hope that it's as obvious to everyone else as it is to me that you do NOT give your baby medicine to fall asleep. I was at a baby shower and one of the girls made a comment that "Baby Tylenol is the best thing ever invented. I give my daughter some and she sleeps throughout the night." That's ridiculous and selfish...not to mention harmful.
That being said, here are a few things. Make sure your baby is eating enough. It may sound silly, but if you baby doesn't "fill-up" at each feeding, he will wake up sooner ready to eat. Another thing is to make sure that his diaper is not wet or dirty BEFORE falling asleep. I tried to make sure that my daughter was clean BEFORE feeding so when she got all relaxed and groggy after feeding, she could go straight to sleep. Make sure your baby isn't too hot or too cold. Both are important. If he's too hot, he will be uncomfortable and wake up. Same with being cold. Also, is it too noisy where he is sleeping? If it is, then move him to a quiet room. My daughter didn't like sleeping where it was too quiet, so I left a radio on for her. The reason was she would end up hearing a loud noise out of all that quiet and it'd startle her. Think about it...when you are asleep, a pin dropping sounds like a 90 pound bowling ball falling through glass...so it is scary at times.
One thing I'd say is do NOT put cereal in his bottle to make him fuller. Babies' stomachs are ready for cereal at such an early age. Also, they have to suck harder to get the cereal out of the bottle (even if it's liquidy enough to where you don't know it's there) The intense sucking can cause ear infections b/c it makes an opening (during sucking) that can cause fluid to enter the ear.
If all this doesn't help, you may just have to get someone to watch the baby while you rest. I know it's hard, but we all go through it. 16 months later, you won't have 100% peaceful rest due to worrying, but it does come with time. Plus, you'd be amazed at how used to lack of sleep you get after time.

Good luck!!

Put an once of baby rice cereal in it's bottle. A full belly might keep him/her asleep longer. Or even get the baby use to a blanket it can sleep with. Bring it everywhere so when it gets older and goes threw another phase of not sleeping(just gotten over it) it'll sleep with it because he/she feels safe.

at night give the baby a nice warm sponge bath. feed him than swaddle him. it won't guarantee u a good 8 hour sleep. but he may sleep for an extra 1 hour. get a sitter or your partner to watch the baby while u nap.

I had the same problem when my first child was born, I used Gripe water, it worked like a charm. But your baby should start sleeping through the nights soon. (6 - 7 hours).
