You've got to earn a tip from me.

Amount of effort = amount of tip

Awsome job waiting = over-tipping.

Easy as pie decision for me.

As a professional waitress for most of my life, I always tip according to service. None of this 10% vs. 15% junk. If the waitress is horrible, you will be sure I will say, you didn't do this or you forgot that. Little things I don't care about (forgetting the ketchup) but when a waitress leaves in the middle of my meal and I have to ask another where she went, you can bet she didn't get a thing. If a waitress or waiter is downright rude, I will pull the manager aside to let them know. I actually worked with a terrible waitress - it was so bad I had people call to see if she was working before they came down.

I only tip if I generally thought the service was good and the food was excellent - also pleasent staff is always a bonus.
If you think a waiter or waitress is rude, you should make an official complaint and ask to speak to the manager.

I always tip. An extremely rude or slack waiter/waitress gets 10% or less.

yes i do but no where near as much as i would as when i great or god service..the better the service the better the tip....one time i tipped MORE than the check i got because she was an outstanding server ..never had to ask for a refill of coffee or water she had it ready...but as for bad service i leave a smaller tip and when the counter person ask how the service was i let him/her know how bad it was and if i was ever to go there again i ask NOT to be seated at the waiter/waitress table I start at 20% and go up or down accordingly

No I don't. If the service is really bad or the water/waitress was rude, I won't tip and I will complain to the manager.

If the service was excellent, I will tip really well and point out the good service to the manager as well.

I am server, so yes I always tip. I tip 30% for good service, even though the norm is 15-20%. Bad service I tip 15%, because I have been there and they don't necessarily mean to do it. One time I stiffed, but the guy treated me and my honey like complete trash. We were working on our house and weren't the cleanest. I only did this after he was super nice to the people next to us, but I told him why, politely.

By the way, I think every one should have to work in a restaurant just to see what it is really like. People are so critical of servers and by the way most only make 2.65 an hour on average and depend on tips. I wish just once, I could go to someone else's job and mess with their pay check. Just something to think about.

I wouldn't tip a rude waiter/waitress. Its them i am tipping, not the food quality, its a way for them to top up their wages so rudeness is not a good thing.

I will tip at least 15% unless they are extremely rude and then it depends on my mood. There was one time when I left 50 cents on a $20 meal because the waitress wasn't doing anything.

I don't tip a waiter or waitress who is even VAGUELY rude. As a matter of fact, a rude server at my table is sent away. I ask the manager to assign another server. I don't want my meal spoiled by someone's attitude.
