we bought a house and the previous owner let us keep their little john/fishing boat. i believe that is is aluminum and it is painted blue on the outside. it is all coming off and we want to paint it. what type of paint would you use to do so??

I've had good luck on aluminum with off-the-shelf rustoleum for above the water line. Be sure to complete remove the old coatings and wash with acetone and a tack rag.

You can also use any good quality alkyd house paint.

If you've got bucks to spare, the boat store will have overpriced special paints that won't work as well too.

An aluminum boat does not need to be painted. There is an aluminum topside paint available.(made bt Interlux or Petty) If the boat stays in the water, it may have bottom paint under the waterline to avoid algae growth on the bottom.The type you use depends on fresh or salt water.
