She's full of it.

Although I'm sure she has set her extensive medical studies aside to pursue a redeeming career in grocery store check out...I would do as you have and seek advice elsewhere.

The only worries you may have with consuming chocolate while breastfeeding is that the darker the chocolate...the more caffiene it contains...so it may affect the baby if you over caffinate yourself...

NOT TO BE CONFUSED with actually giving the baby the chocolate..that would be very dangerous as chocolate is on the "Highly Allergic" list of foods to avoid in the first year of life.

We don't get to sleep, our nipples are sore from breast feeding...we're lucky if we get a shower...NO ONE is taking away our chocolate.

Don't worry mamma...eat your chocolate, breast feed your baby and be merry...all is well.

:)

Congratulations by the way and yay to you for breastfeeding!

I have never heard of this, so I did some research online to find out where this might be coming from.

While some chocolate contains a small amount of caffeine, it is so small that it is not something you should really worry about unless you're really gobbling down pounds of chocolate every day. Caffeine is even okay in moderate amounts, like in cola and coffee. Moderation is the key, here!

I have breastfed two babies, and never had a problem. In fact, throughout my second pregnancy and at least 9 months into breastfeeding my second child, I had a daily craving for a Little Debbie Cosmic Brownie, washed down with a big cup of whole milk. My baby never got an upset stomach from it, but he also didn't object to anything else I ate. I don't particularly like spicy foods, anyway, so maybe my mild taste was what my baby liked. But every baby is different; some like more flavors than others, and some might completely reject milk after you eat a certain food (not likely, but I've heard of it happening). If you find that your baby has an upset stomach or is refusing the breast, you might want to take a look at your diet and see what might be upsetting him. From what I've researched just now, it seems that some babies do have an aversion to chocolate. I wouldn't avoid it altogether, though, unless you have reason to believe it upsets your baby's stomach.

I'm still breastfeeding my 13 month old son, and thoroughly enjoying the box of chocolates my hubby gave me for Valentine's Day. So go ahead, enjoy yourself. Your baby will be fine!

Ha! sidestep chocolate, no freaking way. i can consume an entire container on the days i think like pulling my hair out. My present day nursling is only about 4 months previous and that i've got been ingesting chocolate on a similar time as breastfeeding via fact the day he became born without unwell effects. each little thing carefully.

You should limit your caffeine when breastfeeding, remember that caffeine is a drug.

Some children will react to the caffeine more than others. I would not use any caffeine while baby is under 3-6 months, after that, I would just use moderation. I changed my morning coffee to decaf and kept the chocolate.

I ate chocolate when breastfeeding with both of my girls. My first one was fine with it. The second one was normally fine unless I ate to much, the caffene would sometimes keep her up. The second was also much more colicy and did not sleep good for naps anyway. I would say try a little first and see what happens if it doesn't effect her then go for it.

I am breastfeeding my 5 mos baby. Almost everyday I had chocolate. He seems to be fine. Some baby maybe sensitive to it some don't. My suggestion is try a little bit and see how react to it.

My son had fussy spells after feeding when i had chocolate in my system. He is also colicy however, and had so many problems with my milk (breastmilk) that he is on soy formula now. I think it depends on your baby. I think the best advice is "everything in moderation" and "what works for you - works for your family". Just give it a try, see how you both do.

Good luck! and Congratulations!

That's rubbish!
I ate chocolate all the time when I was breastfeeding, and I must have done something right, because I fed my daugther for 18 months.

The Doctor told my daughter-in-law not to eat chocolate. She did once and the baby got an upset stomach and diarrhea. She hasn't eaten it since. Why take the chance of upsetting your little baby.

I think its fine. i think all these false information circulating out there is doing women no good, it just increases the chances that one might actually quit bf prematurely. don't believe everything u hear.
