It depends on whether it is of gas or of Electric one.In electric one it depends on the KW of heating element in the heater. It also depends on the thermal insulation level provided in your heater. So many factors are also responsible to find out the time, like the initial temperature of the water intake and the out let temperature you want to maintain,etc , to find out time required to heat the water.

Gas or Electric?

Gas is pretty quick, it would probably heat it to where you could take a shower in less than an hour (if it had been turned off).

Electric is a little slower, probably 1-1/2 - 2 hour.

It mainly depends on how good it is, some are more powerful than others, and they all get worse with age.

about 1 hour for either and electric or a gas they are about the same
