Nobody said Iran couldn't have a nuclear energy program. Just about every country in the world, however, would agree that the nuclear program of any country should be open to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Nuclear power is not something to be taken lightly in any circumstance. When Iran began its bid to start a nuclear program, the world was cautious. Iran's president is seen as something of a fanatical nut in some parts of the world. When he talks of wiping an entire country off the map, he's not seen as the most trustworthy person in the world who should control a nuclear program. And the fact that Iran's president is a figure head and doesn't actually govern the country anyway inspires less confidence.
Anyways, back to the issue at hand. Iran has started a nuclear program without reassuring the world of its nuclear goals. All Mr. Ahmadinejad says is that Iran has the right to use atomic energy. The fact that highly enriched uranium (of the type that is used in nuclear weapons alone) has been found around the reactors that (we were assured) would be used to only produce uranium for energy production has not gone unnoticed or accounted for. It's missing, it seems.
Nuclear energy is one of those two headed beasts. On one side, it is a "cleaner" energy source, on the other side, nuclear weapons have the potential to kill large numbers of people and ruin large areas of land. France's solution to allow the sale of uranium fuel for nuclear energy reactors seemed like a very reasonable deal for Iran. But its unceremonious rejection of that offer seemed suspicious to every country in the world. The United Nations doesn't want Iran to develop nuclear technology at this time due to the fact that Iranian leadership is uncooperative in the extreme and seen as fanatically extremist. No country wants a lunatic with a "trigger-happy" finger on the button controlling a nuclear weapon (for illustration, look up Kim Jong Il)

Iran can have nuclear energy for PEACEFUL purposes. That is why the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty was set up and why Iran signed the treaty. However, Iran is going after nuclear weapons, which is not allowed under the treaty and that is what all the protests are about.

Iran has enough gas centrifuges that if it ran them all for TWO WEEKS, it could make enough nuclear fuel to power its reactors for 400 YEARS. Clearly that is not a cost effective way to run a peaceful nuclear power program.

But it can use the same centrifuges to make 10 nuclear weapons a year, and for that, having as many gas centrifuges as Iran has is cost effective.

But not to worry. Best projection is Iran can not have a working nuke until 2009 and Bush is in office until JAN of that year. Can you say B61-11?

Well, let's see:

1)Iran's rabid dog of a President has threatened several times to wipe out Israel.

2)Iran's building centrifuges, which are necessary to develope Nukes.

3)Iran doesn't allow inspection of its nuclear development.

That raises quite a few red flags.

No one has ever said that Iran can't have nuclear energy. The issue is the nuclear ingredients/equipment to build a bomb. Iran has been offered the necessary resources to build peacetime facilities, but they have turned it down.

No one is trying to prevent Iran having nuclear energy.

What the rest of the world is wanting is proof that Iran is not building nuclear weapons to use against other countries or to give to terrorists to use.

No reason why they can't ..well except all the calls for destruction of Israel, and any other country that doesn't follow their backward believe system. So you really can't blame most folks for not wanting them to have nukes to toss about the neighborhood.

They can have nuclear energy, no problem with that, but the thing is they are building centrifuge's which is one step in building nuclear bombs....and they say they will use it...not good..
