What's really considered weird in today's society?

The real question is.. why do YOU think it's weird?

And why do you feel it's neccessary to have how you feel validated?

Things is.. I would encourage my son to knit. It'll help him diversify and give him a broader range of experiences and, at the very least, he'll know what to do when he gets out of the house and rips a seam or tears his shirt...

I'd say the only thing you have to worry about knitting would be if he decides to stab someone with the needle or obsesses about it. (everything in moderation).

Otherwise knitting, as a hobby, is as unisex as it comes. Although some 'tough guys' won't agree... those are usually the ones with the self-image crisis and (usually) some type of homophobic tendencies.

The bottom line is.. why not let him do what he finds fun? It might be something he's doing to impress a girl.. or maybe he's found something relaxing after a day of chasing girls?

No it isn't weird. There is a great history of men who knit. In fact most historians agree that knitting probably began with men. The thinking goes that knitting grew out of the knitting of fishing nets.
You should encourage your son to knit. It's a great way to relax and to meditate. It also helps with mental strengthening. Keeps you focused. Also - keeps him off the streets and potential trouble.
Do you remember Rosie Greer? He knits. So why not your son?

Not really. When I was substitute teaching, I would bring my knitting along and taught a few students, male and female, to knit. It's not weird, men use to knit all the time.

If anything he's learning a skill he can use to relax or be creative with in the future.

Don't worry about it. Let him enjoy his hobby.

Nope, it's great! In Scandinavian countries, knitting is done by all genders and all ages. It's a useful skill and a great way to spend time!
