You ovulate on about the 14th day of your cycle. Your cycle starts on the 1st day of menstruation. There are physical changes that occur that you may or may not notice. Your cervical/vaginal mucus becomes more slippery and will stretch and is more copious. Your basel body temp will go up a little like a 1/10th or 2/10th of a degree. Some women say they are more interested in sex around the time of ovulation. Most of these are very subtle changes but if you pay attention to your body you may notice. This is NOT a very effective birth control method.

Not everyone has clear signs. My husband and I took a Natural Family Planning course many years ago. I didn't want to continue the pill and we were looking for alternatives. I learned a great deal about my body in that class(offered at a local hospital). What I had thought was a re-occurring infection once a month, was actually my ovulation cycle. My signs are very clear. My mucus flow becomes very prominent. Sometimes I get a little crampy from one or the other ovary. Get some books about this , it will tell you the "signs" you should look for. Generally ovulation occurs about 14 days after the start of your period (or a week after you are finished). Just remember, every woman is different. Your signs might be harder to "read" or they might vary.

Ovulation occurs on the 14th day after the first day of your period. For example, if you started on the first, then ovulation would occur on the 14th of the month. This is when fertilization is most successful. Sometimes people can actually feel a small cramping sensation on one side of their abdomen in which the ovary is releasing the egg, and hormone levels are changing. Some people get cravings, some feel no symptoms at all.

I am on day 22 since the first day of my last period and I am getting an ache on my left side below my bottom rib. Its not a painful ache but more of a "throbbing" so I can only assume that it is because I am ovulating? It normally happens so I am used to it now.
Hope this helps!

ok here's the deal, it's no mystery...
If your cycle is 28 days, you ovulate on day 14, if it's 30 days, you ovulate on day 15.... no matter how long your period is, you ovulate in the middle of it... that day your temperature rises, you look great, your eyes and skin are shiny, you have no pimples... you look amazing and there is some increase in vaginal fluids, some crystaline fluid.

I have been using natural fertility called The Billings Method for over six years. In that time I have avoided pregnancy and successfully conceived twice in the first month we tried.

Once I knew what to look for, I found it very easy to track my fertility.
