I have an amazing job interview tomorrow working as an administrative assistant/receptionist in a downtown los angeles lawfirm!!!! It doesn't seem like much but I'm only 19 so it's a great opportunity. I know how to conduct myself during an interview- eye contact, making a conversation rather than simple yes and no... etc.. but I need some more tips and advice on what to wear!!!! What color is appropriate?? blazer and slacks?? heels?? My resume- refer to it as a resource, keep my references on hand... i do and do not know what to expect. It's my first interview in a lawfirm so i'm a bit nervous. Any advice will help. Thank you!!!!!

No slacks!

You need a business suit (prefarably navy blue or black) with a skirt.

Button up blouse

Mid height heels (2-2 1/2 inches)

Nude hose.

Keep makeup natural and to a minimum.

Practice a firm handshake tonight with friends/parents. Reach out with right hand, grasp others hand (thumbs should be touching) pump twice, release.

Be super nice to everyone you meet, and I mean everyone.

Make sure you get business cards from every person who interviews you so you have the correct spelling for your thank you notes.

Listen carefully and if they bring up anything that they feel you need to work on, respond to it.

Ask great questions about the firm, the person interviewing you (how long have you worked here? what do you like best? what would you change if you could?) and the job duties.

Do not ask about wages or benefits, wait until offer.

Your last question should be, "When do you expect to make a decision on this opening?" Then you will have the time frame for getting in your thank you notes.

Write and send your thank you's that re-iterate the reasons you want the job and the skills they need that you have.

Good luck!!!! And remember, we all start somewhere!

Lawfirm means conservative. If you don't have a suit in a conservative color (black, grey or navy blue) then go for slacks or skirt (appropriate length) in a conservative color, and a sweater set in a nice pastel or even red (red is an assertive color and it's good to have a bit on you in an interview). Blazer is fine, but make sure it fits properly.

Go easy on the jewlery, earings not too big, and one ring per hand max. Skip the perfume. Make sure to have fresh breath.

Heels, pumps or kittens. Just in case don't do open toe. It's probably still chilly down there, so wear tights if you are in a skirt(they're in style anyway). The shoes can be mildly flashy. You may prefer to do wear a lower heel or a mary-jane, you never know how fast the interviewer will walk, and you will want to keep up with them without tripping, and without your shoe flipping off your heel.

Makeup should be conservative, no blue eyes or anything, hair styled neatly, but can be down (consider a headband or something if it's long).

Do a little research on the Internet tonight on Ashtanga breathing. It will help settle your nerves on the way to the interview. Research behavioral based interviewing on the web, most companies use that form of interview.

Bring two extra copies of your resume and references, notebook and pen. Make a list of smart compelling questions in your notebook based on the research you do on the company tonight.

If they offer you water when you get there, take it, you may get a dry throat from nerves.

You seem like a bright person, and I wish you the best. Remember to have fun, and let us all know how it goes!

The objective of an interview is to convince the employer that you will be able to fulfill the organizational needs and fit into the company culture. Certain steps taken by you will definitely help you create a better impression on your interviewer. Update your resume , prepare for the interview questions , research the company and dress appropriately for the job . More details and information at http://www.precv.com/

don't be nervous.

Lawfirms want someone who is articulate and who will represent the firm positively.

Wear a dark colored skirt (not short), with a blazer. Lo heeled shoes. Not too much make-up. You need to look professional.

good luck.
