My son is 20 months and naps have always been a struggle! He's never had a problem at night, just during the day. He cut out the morning nap at 10 months and takes one, 1hr nap a day....he does go to be early though, like 6:30pm and wakes around 6:30-7am. I kept telling him that "This isn't in the books!!" I actually tried the crying it out, no cry-sleep solution, ferber(which I did for night and worked like a charm) and every other thing you could think of. What we do now, and what's been working, is I actually rock him to sleep and put him in his crib as soon as he's out. I have also put tin foil up in his window so it's very dark. It's very different from night time where I lay him down awake and he goes to sleep on his own....Just find whatever works and stick to it. Also, I try to have a routine like after lunch we take a nap...no exceptions. Also, put him down as soon as you see the first sign of tired....even if you think it will mess up the schedule. The more they fight tiredness, the more wired they become. Good luck!

Depends on the kid. My daughter would konk out on the spot every time she heard Godsmack's song Voodoo (I listened to it every day while I was pregnant). I think she thought it was comforting, with all that bass and everything. Some kids like the swing. Some kids like being walked around and bounced. Some kids like being rocked. Some just need to wear themselves out. Keep trying different techniques until something works. I personally never made my daughter take a nap unless she was being a holy terror from fatigue.

I use to lay my kids across my lap with them on their stomach and then very gently and softly bounce my knees up and down while patting their back. It is a kinda of soothing motion and at the same time they are stable. Make sure their head is laying on one of your legs so that is doesnt bounce. Usually after about 15 minutes of this they would be fast asleep. If you are curious about this method I did see it in books and the doctor also suggested it.

You can't make a baby sleep, eat, or poop.

That being said, not enough info in your question to help. Is the baby refusing to sleep but tired? Not tired but should be?

Keeping them in routine is always helpful.

Same time, everyday, or at least as close as possible.

Gentle lullaby, read to them, yes, he will like to heard the sound of your voice.

rocking might help or just being held tight. Every child is different.

Some children will seem to sleep alot while others hardly at all.

Make sure they are truly sleepy, have a full tummy, and are clean. Then put them to bed and leave. YOu have to do this daily and and a consistent time, it's training not a magic formula.

IF YOU HAVE A ROCKING CHAIR, WRAP THE BABY IN A BLANKET, AND HOLD THE BABY CLOSE TO YOU, AND SING TO THE BABY, OR JUST HYMN A SONG, IN A DARK QUIET PLACE.
