This is the question:
1. Find the total area enclosed between the x-axis, the curve
y=e−x−1 and the lines x = -1 amd x = 1. [to 2dp

Apparently the solution is Area = 1.09

Now either my maths lecturer is a total nutjob or I am terrible at integration - no I am terrible - but I cannot see how this answer was arrived at.
Please shed some light on this.

Your question has some problems. First

y = e − x − 1

is not a curve. It is a straight line. It can be rearranged as

x + y = e − 1

Also what is [to 2dp

Please clarify and resubmit.
