Our fearless leaders (LBJ, tricky dickie) and assorted exploiters/warhawks told us that the evil communist N. Vietnamese were trying to destroy/take over good 'ol S. Vietnam.
That if we didn't kill the N. Vietnamese, communism would take over the world.
More gov't lies to make us afraid and be willing to sacrifice our finest young people in a jungle thousands of miles away.
Vietnam reunited after we left, a communist nation, but communism didn't take over.
In fact, there are far fewer communists after we lost that war than before.

It made the rise of the modern America-hating Left possible. Before Vietnam, people like them would have been tarred and feathered, but in the heady days of peace protests and love-ins, they became counter-cultural icons.
It's a pity an errant B-52 didn't drop a few bombs on Woodstock in 1969. There would be a lot fewer whackos today.

You're leaving out the part about all of the slaughtered Vietnamese after we left. How many were there again?
And yes, left to itself, Communism will eventually fail in every situation.

millions of people were murdered after we left, read up on the Khmer Rouge, Pol -Pot etc....i blame those deaths on the antiwar protesters.
Nixon ran on "getting out" of vietnam!...he escalated the conflict somewhat to make the break more "clean" but we all know how that went down.

millions lost their lives die to our cowardly act. I feel shame for our nation. If we leave communists alone, it will never fall but rise. Look at Venezuela now, you will see. USSR didn't fall by itself. E EU didn't fall without intervention. 1 more ex. we lost VN War, then we lost every war after it. The result is China become more powerful. We didn't dare to provoke China now.
