And what is the 2000's refered to as from 2000 to 2009? Because if it's the 20 hundreds, then doesn't that refer to the whole century too? And the 2020's if refered to as the 20's, what happens to the 1920's?

As awkward as it may sound, historians generally refer to the frist ten years of a century by the use of the term "ought." Years ago the word "ought" meant "zero."

There fore the decade in which Teddy Roosevelt was president was the 19-oughts. That clarifies it as the first ten years of the century. Thomas Jefferson served in the 18-oughts.

And there you have the ugly, awkward, and accurate answer.

For 1900-1909, how about the 19 hundred zeroes?

And as for the 1920s/2020s question, just call the 1920s the 1920s. They'll be less important after the 2020s have gone, and will need clarification.

The 1900--------1999==== 20th CENTURY
The 1901--------2000==== 20th CENTURY

The 2000--------2099==== 21st CENTURY
The 2001--------2100==== 21st CENTURY

THE EXPERTS ARE ARGUIN' THIS VERY THING. [About the ABOVE STATEMENTS.]

1900 Can mean the WHOLE CENTURY or JUST the YEAR.
If you say 1900's-- It means DECADE or CENTURY dependin' how it is used in a SENTENCE.

For the 2020's it is A NEW ERA of the '20's, the 1920's is a DIFFERENT ERA---With different INVENTIONS----Like ELECTRICAL RECORDIN' By GENERAL ELECTRIC-- a THOMAS ALVA EDISON COMPANY, We went from, MECHICAL/HAND CRANKED RECORDIN for Our PHONOGRAPHS in 1925.

We don't KNOW what INVENTIONS we WILL have in the 2020 & FUTURE!

you can say the first decade of the 1900's...or the early 1900's....or just state the years..in the 1900's between 1901 and 1910....
LOL...as far as I have heard, its still referred to as the 21st century....or by the year itself. It all comes down to this...semantics, and being able to decisively state what it is you are talking about.

As with this decade, some refer to the period between 1900 and 1910 as the "aughts," as in "nineteen-aught-six" for 1906. It's a relatively archaic term meaning "zero." It does sound better than the "O's" or "Zeroes."
