I have always gone to my local Firestone to get work done on my car. It is mostly just an oil change, but I have also had some other things fixed. I went there for my last oil change and I told them about a sound I heard. They came back with the suggestion of replaceing my struts. A $600 job. My dad suggest I take it to another place and compare prices. I did and this other place said they could not find anything wrong with it.

Don't sue them just go talk to the manager and demand an apolgy or you will contact the better business bureau and report them.. Oh ya call the local TV station that covers scam auto repair and other innocent customer scams.... Humiliate them in fron to their customers, Have a written proof from the second place you took it.....Smart shopper, you got a second opinion...Good work. I get lots of second opinion people in my shops and if they don't need the work I tell them and then I have gained their trust. Earning trust in the auto repair business is tough to earn and so eay to lose..

The key issue is "What is your loss?" Sounds like you simply got two estimates for the same possible problem. That is a prudent move for anyone and is a proven move in this case.

BUT... what are you out? Sounds like nothing.

Having said that, you CAN file a complaint with the home company and whatever state agency licenses this type of establishment.

THAT will possibly save the NEXT person from being cheated. \

And for that you get a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Sue them over what?

If your car has more than 50,000 miles on it MAP (Motorist Assurance Program) guidelines suggest replacing the struts even if there is no outward sign of damage or failure, so they were following good industry practices in recommending them. Since you didn't even have any work done its going to be pretty hard to claim damages.

You have no reason to sue. They are suggesting you to change our car's struts and letting you know the cost upfront. I see no harm there. Is up to you if you follow their advice.
