I'm finishing my basement and need to fit a hallway, closet, and bathtub (running long direction) in a tight space. Total distance stud to stud is 10'6". I've decided that rather than create an unusable closet or an extremely narrow hall, I'll use a short tub. This is for a guest room so it won't get a ton of use anyway.

I was initially thinking that a 54" tub would be cheaper than a 60" tub - seems to make sense, right? Wrong! The only cast iron tub that I've found this far is from Kohler and is nearly twice the cost of the similar 60" tub!

Any suggestions on other tubs? I plan to tile the walls, so I'd prefer something nice. Cast Iron is preferred over acrylic. An extra deep tub would be really great.

Thanks in advance!

Why not a nice walk-in shower - you can get a floor pan that size if you will tile the walls anyway. Walk-in showers are great for guest baths.

You usually pay premium prices for specialty size extra deep tubs. Check out a salvage store in your area.

online I found : 1 used & new available from $257.36

Anything that deviates from the norm is going to be charged a premium.

I don't think that you are going to find anything made of cast iron other than the Kohler k_754 Seaforth in a 54" length.

There maybe some proclein coated steel tubs that look about the same from American Standard, they are about 1/5 the cost, though they won't have the heft of cast iron.

You might find something at a "renovators yard"/ used plumbing shop, but it is a long shot.

If you want to splurge you could get a custom terrazo tub: http://www.exbali.com/bali_decor/Bathtubs.htm

Other options would be a just settle for a shower or create a "leaky" tub out of teak or similar wood and set that on a custom concrete base: http://www.concreteexchange.com/mixer/mix_1_7_notes.jsp
