x + 4y = 5
x = 5-4y

You substitute y for various values and find x for the corresponding values
for y=0, x= 5 (5,0)
for y=1, x= 1 (1,1)
for y=2, x= -3 (-3,2)
for y=-1, x= 9 (9,-1) and so on.

you plot these numbers in the graph and join the points and that's it.

take the equations x+4y = 5 and find x and y that satisfy this equation.

this is best done by substitution x /y with values on the number line that you can assume will give you that satusfy this equation

so here we have x = 5 - 4 y

Lets substitute y as 1
so we get x = 5 -4 .1 = 1

now we need another point to graph this line...
lets take y =2
x = 5 -4*2 = 5-8 = -3

so the 2 points are p1 (1 ,1) and (-3,2)

graphing these will give yu the line...

Since this is a linear function, two points are enough to determine the entire line.

Make x = 0, and solve for y (giving, say, y_1); go back to the original equation, make y = 0, and solve for x (giving, say, x_1). So, the points (0, y_1) and (x_1, 0) (also called y-intercept and x-intercept) belong to the graph of the function.

Now, plot the points, and trace a straight line through them.

u can graph it by finding the x and y intercepts. to find the x intercept let y=0, this will leave u with x=5. go right five on xaxis, make a point. now find y intercept, let x=0. 4y=5, divide both sides by 4 and u get y=1.25. go up 1.25 spaces on y axis and make a point. draw line thru point and u are done.
