I am auditioning for a musical at my local community theater and I have come down with a case of allergies complete with stuffy nose, draining and a scratchy voice due to trying to cough up phlem. (lovely, I know) Here's my question -

Besides taking an antihistamine and a decongestant, drinking lots of water, and resting it as much as possible, what can I do to restore my voice ASAP?

See your doctor.

If you don't want to see your doctor or your doctor gives you useless advice, the best remedy I've heard is hot tea with honey to relax the vocal cords, and DON'T TALK, because that will only make it worse.

If your doctor can do no more, gargle with warm water in which a little salt has been dissolved. Do not swallow.
Then go to a health food shop and buy the purest form of honey you can. In our country, this would be Manuka honey, made by bees using flowers of manuka trees.
Take a spoon of honey 3-4 times a day.
Rest your voice, avoid allergens, avoid foods too hot or too cold.
Avoid smokey, dusty places. Gentle humming might help too.
Good luck for the audition. Sorry! Break a leg. lol

Hi!
I work as a singer, whenever I have to push myself, I usually drink fresh lemon juice about 5min before perfomance, doesn't last very long but quite effective in clearing the voice for about 30min.
Many other singers use of course whiskey, but it might not be that nice turning up on an audition smelling of alcohol.
Make sure you tell them you're sick though.
All the best
