You need to talk to your mom or friends about this.

No hun, they don't hurt if inserted correctly. Plus because you have heavy periods does not mean you have to use long ones. It's the diameter of them, meaning the bigger round they are but their all about the same size going in, they don't expand until you insert them and discard the applicator. This is how I do it, while sitting on toilet, open it and hold the grip part and just insert it upward and push it out when it's in all the way pull out the plastic part. You should not feel it at all and you will only have the string dangling down and you will know when you need to change so just tug on the string while on the toilet. Good luck to you.

Talk to your mom or close friends about their experiences with tampons letting them know what your fears are and don't be afraid of sounding stupid. Having a heavy period does not mean you have to use long ones though. My experience was that insertion the first couple of times it did hurt a bit got a little better during the cycle and a little painful for initial insertion for the next cycle. For me lying back with my knees up was the most comfortable and definitely ones with applicators.and definitely relax girl
Good luck Hon

You do need to talk with your Mom. She can answer all this stuff in a way that will reassure you. Back in my day, we didn't do tampons when we were very young. I didn't use my first one till I was about 18 and getting married! You said you would have to use a long one because you have heavy flow. There is only one length(except for the compact ones). I grew up at the river in the summer, I sat on the side lines many times, because of my period. It was a fact of life, things have changed. Don't force yourself to do something that you are not comfortable with, just yet. You should study the anatomy of a woman, learn how your body works...

find a trusted friend to show you the brand she uses. explain your fears to her -we all had them our first time.
follow the directions carefully. the tampon itself should never be painful when it's in your vagina. if you have pain, it may not be in high enough. you can still be a virgin when you use a tampon as the hymen sits up higher.
use clean hands when inserting a tampon. relax and remember to breathe. become comfortable with your all of the parts of your body. your "girly parts" are no different from your knees or arms. they are just another part of you.

if you are a heavy flower, tampons are not for you!just because your friends use them doesn't mean it is necessary.even swimming w/ a tampon you have to change it right away because it will swell inside and then you have the chemicals from the pool now going inside you all tampons are is a cotton plug and make you more prone to infections and toxic shock syndrom.i used tampons for years and now i am having all kinds of problems and it is very well because of the tampons.stick w/ pads and be healthy!!! be different.

you should only use them if your comfortable....try the ones with an applicator...they are generally easier....read the instructions its very clear....and if you feel any discomfort inserting then stop and try again...it does not hurt

the first time you put on a tampon it WILL hurt because you haven't broken your hymen yet. just take a deep breath and put it in. the instructions are in the box.

This is something you should discuss with either your mother or older sister. They should be able to help you...
