I can vividly remember this from my childhood... it must be a Pertwee/Baker episode... it's in an office somewhere in England, the bad guys get this man to sit in an alien sofa/setee which promptly eats him. I have no idea why!
Does anyone know which episode that was in?

After a bit of searching, I found it:
It's a Jon Pertwee story called "Terror of the Autons".

Darren J is right this is indeed from the story "Terror of the Autons". This was he first story to feature the Master. It was a Jon Pertwee story and the sofa was made of living plastic (like the bin that ate Micky in the 2005 series with Christopher Eccleston) and the shop window dummies. There were also poison gas plastic daffodils and a monster doll that attacks people.
I have not seen this episode myself but know it well from the novelisation of it (I think it is by Terrance Dicks but I am not 100% certain). It is a good story and and I would love to watch it. A similar story "Spearhead from Space" is available from BBC DVD and is well worth seeing.

It was the 1971 story called Terror Of The Autons, and starred Jon Pertwee as the Doctor and was the story which introduced Jo Grant as his assistant, the Master takes over the Farrel company to make killer plastic daffodils, Auton dolls and plastic chairs which indeed did kill one unfortunate young man by suffocating him to death.

All together a good story which introduces the Master and Jo Grant but watch out for Jon Pertwee's over acting as he is strangled by the phone lead in episode 3
