They have different metabolisms. Some are faster than others, can each lots and burn it quickly; others eat the same amount and put on fat.

They may have the same weight but different shapes and volumes, so their surface area to weight ratio is different. Higher surface area per weight means that they would lose heat more than a person with a lower ratio, so they need more energy. Children have a higher surface area to weight ratio, that's why they get cold easier than adults.

One may be bald and lose lots of heat through the head.
