I have taken the bulb out but still can't turn off the light at the wall! Three bulbs still lit and the only way to turn them off at the moment is to remove the fuse! Help! hope some of you electricians have a late start in the morning!

Thankyou so much to everyone that answered. I took the cover off and it seemed to be the wires that were in the way of the switch. Whatever it was I now have light again! Thanks again for all your help. XXXXXX

switch off electricity to switch then unscrew switch cover you may find that the wires are loose or that the switch itself has a fault which means you will have to replace it. To ensure you are not without lights take the other bulbs out then you can switch the others on and off without worrying about that particular light.
Remember and leave the switch cover over the wires as they are still live

The lamp has failed by shorting internally, this has welded the switch contacts together, you may be able to break the weld by giving a hard, sharp tap to the projecting part of the switch rocker, with something heavy, (a pair of pliers?) The fuse should have gone before it welded, make sure that it's not too heavy, or that the MCB is the correct rating. You may still have to replace the switch, but this MAY get you going till then.

Yes you are ok to leave the fuse out.
I bet you can replace the switch yourself. If you know how to work a screwdriver you can do it. Is the light only controled from one location? or are there 2 switches that control it
Email me if you want to try to do it yourself.

remove the fuse and change the switch. It sounds like it is broken in the ON postion.

your cable has fused together inside the wall (welded)you need to replace it, either yourself but best get a sparky in before you get a fire especially if you have partition walls.
